'Docklands Railway' by Greta Fitchett

See Greta's website

Speaker report. The Speaker at our meeting on February 9th was Greta Fitchett speaking on Inspired by Colour. She brought us a sizeable selection of her award winning quilts and showed us her development and range of styles and colour pallets.

Greta's workshop the next day using Expandaprint, paint and machine embroidery was over-subscribed. Those attending were very enthusiastic, so much so that she may be teaching some of us at Husqvarna on a regular basis. Report by Suella Postles

Pauline Bloomfield

“Origins and Beyond”

Speaker report. We had 42+ members with 8 visitors to hear our speaker. Pauline talked us through her beginnings as a textile artist and her inspirations from african legends and her parents’ Jamaican roots. She generously passed around almost all of the work she had brought with her for us to investigate and comment on and was very good at answering questions from the floor throughout. The talk was presented almost more as a tutorial with us given time to see the material and comment on it. It was noteworthy that she could stitch so densely and her use of Whaleys Resida Cotton Bump Natural from www.whaleys-bradford.ltd.uk was a new material for many of us. Report by Suella Postles

And Sew to Supper

Come and chat and socialise. Why not bring a current project, shop from our visiting trader or just enjoy the delicious cakes and biscuits with a cuppa!

Report. Our And Sew to Supper meeting was very well supported. Forty-four people attended and we welcomed some new members who were taking advantage of the half yearly fee of £20 There were some really exciting and vibrant projects being worked on, and many people took advantage of this opportunity to see and discuss others’ work. Lovely cakes and nibbles were available as well.

I very much appreciated the useful comments made during and after the discussion about the survey. Your committee is acting on these and will continue to do so with our programme for next year.

I was pleased to hear how welcoming the WBEG was to visitors and new members.

We can all be really proud of this. Report by Suella Postles

Georgina Bell

“Drawing with Embroidery”

See Georgina's website

Lois Cracoloci writes: “In May, we welcomed textile artist Georgina Bell who many of us know from South Nottingham College and who also has a studio at the Harley Gallery in Worksop. Despite technical problems with her projector Georgina gave us an entertaining and lively talk about her career and current work. This work explores her own personal memories and journeys both physical and emotional through the medium of print and stitch. Although autobiographical there were many universal themes that we could all relate to. Georgina's joy of threading a needle and stitching plus her enthusiasm that the tradition and skills of textile craft should continue was infectious and we left uplifted”.
