Yvonne Brown - Off the wall

Wherever we are we can find interesting walls made of stone and brick, weathered and worn and decorated with lichen, moss and ivy. These wonderful textured surroundings provide a remarkable source for textile work.

This experimental workshop day for art quilters and embroiderers will lead you through a number of techniques which will enable you to produce your own textile wall.

The techniques covered will require some knowledge of free-machine work, we will also be busy melting and burning (soldering irons and heat gun will be provided for use in the class) and there will be a bit of painting and printing!

Friday 18 November 10.00am - 4.00pm

Lorraine Ellison - Free machine embroidery

Drawing with your sewing machine to create background and texture

Friday 10 March 10.00am - 4.00pm

Mary Sleigh - Piecing and Patching - African Style

I create bespoke mixed media textile pieces of work that are combined with my love for drawing. instead of drawing with pencil I use a needle. I build up layers of paper and fabric, re-working my pieces with paint, ink, dyes and stamp before drawing on the surface with a sewing machine and needle. My inspiration comes from the walks and journeys I go on. I collect, draw and photograph natures treasures, that can sometimes go un-noticed and these become the inspiration for my work. We will explore a variety of printing techniques that we will then 'rip up', collage and stitched together to create a unique wall hanging.

Friday 9 June 10.00am - 4.00pm

Laura Edgar - Textile Floral collage - poppies
