Claire Muir - Creative Activities
Having completed her postgraduate studies in the textile department of the Glasgow School of Art, Claire worked as designer of headdresses and accessories for Stageworks Worldwide Productions. Having seen the potential of a wide range of techniques and materials she has used her knowledge and expertise to develop new creations including fascinators, tiaras and flowers.

Heather Jacks - The Sewing Bee and after
Sewing has been an influence in Heather's life since the age of 10. She describes herself as an artist, musician, fanatical stitcher and dressage rider / trainer. Heather won the Great British Sewing Bee in 2014.

“My passion for art and textiles began early on. As a child I spent endless hours playing with threads and fibres and this intimate knowledge has subsequently influenced my choice of materials. My work seeks to capture an emotive and evocative interpretation of nature which is constantly refined throughout the process of making. The passion and freedom encountered in the immediacy of sketching is developed and channelled through paintings, and then consolidated into textile pieces. Labour and repetition are central to this process and depending on the scale the finished textile can take many months to complete. My understanding of art is not purely the process of my individual craft, but encompasses a larger historical understanding of artists working in many mediums.”

I am a textile artist and I create modern decorative wall art using a blend of contemporary, cutting edge techniques and traditional stitch and embroidery work. My work is design-led and primarily abstract. It is usually inspired by my passions for nature and historical architecture.
This talk describes the development of a scheme of work based on Norwich Cathedral from conception to completion. It looks at design work and the techniques that were explored to develop the final pieces of work.

Annette Emms - Gargoyles, Ghosts and Gravestones
I am a Textile Artist, living and working in the beautiful Vale of Evesham, where Shakespeares’ Avon flows through fruit orchards, against a backdrop of the Cotswold Hills.
Since I was a child, I have played with fabric, thread and stories. My work combines this and a fascination with the natural world, old churches, history and local legends. Our Parish churches are treasure houses, full of history that you can touch and an amazing source of inspiration for Textile Art.
This talk tells of my many adventures ‘Church Crawling’ and describes how you might have fun discovering the wonders within and around your local church.
I’ll show you where to look for ideas for your art and where to find stories that will fascinate!

Angie Hughes - Work and Inspiration
Angie is a textile artist and tutor, who lives and works in Ledbury, Herefordshire. She has been interested in textiles since she left school although only discovered creative embroidery in 1994 when she began studying City & Guilds at Malvern Hills College. While a student she won the prestigious Charles Henry Foyle Trust Award for Stitched Textiles with her piece 'Unfolding Word' and had 'Shroud' accepted for Art of the Stitch.
Her artwork is inspired by many themes but particularly poetry or text and the natural world, particularly plant forms.

Mary is a textile artist. She has been working in textiles for 25 years. Her style of working is explorative, experimental and ever evolving as Mary is forever developing more techniques and adding new ideas to her repertoire. Mary finds that new media and processes fuel her work and she often responds to a brief in an intuitive way. Her work is abstract, free flowing and multi layered. She has a wide range of textual techniques at her fingertips.

Joanne Hyam - My journey to here
Working as a full time artist, I am inspired by light, colour, nature and world cultures. Working intuitively, I aim to create beautiful work, whether that results in intricate textile works and silk fibre sculptures, or paintings and mixed media collages. I am currently developing my work through the ongoing exploration of textile techniques and mixed-media experimentation.

I’m a freelance textile artist following a dream of earning a living through art. It’s a long haul that’s taken ten years for me to get this far and a long way from the early naivety of thinking that I could just stitch to earn money!
I especially enjoy enabling and inspiring others to be creative; facilitating connections through creativity in primary education, health settings, community art, adult education and creative retreats and believe that participating in creativity can enhance wellbeing. Alongside this, I endeavour to develop my own practice.
