Lynda Kinnard - Not for walking on
Rebellious Rags is the business name for creative textile artist Lynda Kinnard. Like many, Lynda adores creating textures, and for 20 years she taught Art and Textiles in Secondary Schools, and was an accomplished dress-maker prior to this. For the last 10 years Lynda has been working freelance as a Textile Designer, Tutor and Artist. With a focus on Free-Machine Embroidery and upcycling fabrics, and using traditional Rug Making techniques in an offbeat and unique way, Lynda creates bespoke commissions, wearable art and embellished homeware.

Yvonne Brown - Threads of Life
With my background in art and my strong interest in art history, particularly the medieval, together with a passion for fabrics and threads, I am constantly exploring ways to use textiles as an artistic medium in an exciting and experimental way to obtain images that have a tactile and, at times, a three dimensional surface, with a richness and depth not often possible by more conventional means. My inspiration is found in the natural world and from art historical sources.

Yvonne designs church vestments with painted silk panels.
She paints banners,chasubles, stoles, copes, mitres, lectern and pulpit falls and altar cloths. Yvonne also paints conference backcloths and gives talks about her work.

Sally Wilson - Designing and constructing her work
The majority of my art pieces are initiated through sketches and quick studies and I acquire photographic evidence to back up my findings and aid in the visual development of pieces. I always keep a sketchpad or notepad close at hand, as ideas and concepts often emerge as I work on other pieces and so it is essential to capture thoughts as they occur. Firsthand findings are the most fruitful and I visit a multitude of locations to gather information. After initial research, I begin to work in textiles using free machine embroidery, returning to drawing in order to explore design and composition and to re-evaluate ideas. Pieces are often reworked or modified as the focus changes and develops.

Mary Sleigh - Embroidered African Textiles
My passion for materials and making by hand started as a child. I can still remember the excitement of going with my grandmother, an enthusiastic embroiderer, to choose threads and fabric in a needlework shop in Glasgow. It was an Aladdin’s cave of colour, textures and drawers full of crisp fabrics smelling of new linen. That was the start of my lifelong love of fabric and stitch; an absorbing journey that continues with many unexpected destinations.

Laura Edgar - Textiles - the fabric of my life
I am based in Whitley Bay on the North East coastline. I work in the mediums of textiles and mixed media, exploring an eclectic mix of vintage, recycled fabrics, ephemera and haberdashery ; incorporating embroidery and painting techniques to create original art, prints, accessories and cards.
I am fascinated by texture and the ephemeral changes to light, texture and colour by the elements on our sea and landscapes. I find inspiration in nature, all things vintage, nostalgia and the emotive power of nature intrigues me. I record initial inspiration with photography & sketches and allow the manipulation of my chosen medium and a spontaneous, experimental approach to develop the finished piece.
